International law has not failed—it is being ignored. Politics has decoupled itself from it, which is why society must activate and defend it. Without pressure from below, there will be no respect for human rights. Albanese warns against the erosion of fundamental freedoms such as freedom of expression and assembly, drawing parallels with the historical denial of crimes. Denial of the genocide in Gaza is part of the crime itself. Despite headwinds, we must continue to fight for equality, an end to occupation, apartheid, and impunity—and for a world order based on equal rights for all.
