Interview with journalist Ben Norton: “Politicians in Beijing see the current US policy as an echo of a century of humiliation” | NDS

Ben Norton is a sharp critic of Western imperialism. The journalist and founder of the Geopolitical Economy Report https://geopoliticaleconomy.com/ worked for many years as a correspondent in Latin America. Today he lives in Beijing. His work appears in the BBC, Sky News, Al Jazeera, Democracy Now and The Intercept, among others. The interview focuses on the demonization of China in Western media, the growing threat of war over Taiwan, and the military-technological arms race between the US and China—a dangerous race that is blocking the urgently needed regulation of artificial intelligence and thus poses an incalculable global risk. Norton also talks about the devastating effects of British colonial rule in India, which left tens of millions dead, US imperialism in Latin America, and the so-called century of humiliation in China, when Western powers and Japan forced the country into semi-colonial dependence.
